The Costa Cálida has a special phenomenon: you can choose to swim in the Mediterranean or in the crystal-clear waters of the Mar Menor. The coast is 250 km long ! The temperature of Mar Menor is always 4 to 5 degrees higher than the Mediterranean Sea, because it is only 7 meters deep and enclosed.
The beaches of Mar Menor are all sandy, without tides, big waves and currents. As the beach here sinks very gradually (it is only 1 to 1.5 meters deep for the first 50 meters from the shore), Mar Menor is very suitable for children and the elderly. In high season the beaches are monitored by lifeguards.
Right along the Costa Cálida you will find nature reserves, salt lakes and vast forests.
The inland sea Mar Menor and the Mediterranean Sea meet in Murcia and form a coast with cliffs, miles of sandy beaches and very pleasant temperatures. You can visit this tourist region at any time of the year. La Manga is one of the major reference points of this coast and consists of a narrow strip of land 24 kilometers long that separates the calm inland sea Mar Menor and the Mediterranean Sea. With around 3,000 hours of sunshine a year, there is plenty to do here; from the town of Águilas to San Pedro del Pinatar you can discover beautiful fishing villages and lively harbors such as Mazarron and its port.
We recommend renting water sports equipment or registering for a specific course either at the Mar Menor water sports center or at the centers for this in Águilas and Mazarron. The Costa Cálida gives you the option to go sailing, canoeing, jetskiing, windsurfing, kayaking or rowing.
U kunt naast relaxen en zonnebaden aan de Costa Cálida ook verschillende landschappen, bergen en natuurgebieden verkennen, zoals het zeereservaat van Cabo de Palos-Islas Hormigas of het regionale zoutpark Salinas de San Pedro.
